Azure Logic Apps


1.    What is Azure Logic Apps?

Azure Logic Apps is a fully managed integration Platform as a Service (PaaS), that is a cloud-based platform for developing and deploying automated processes that integrate your apps, data, services, and systems.

 

2.    What is the difference between Azure functions and logic apps?

Azure Functions is a serverless compute service, and Azure Logic Apps is a serverless workflow service. Both can build complicated orchestrations. An orchestration is a set of functions or tasks, known as actions in Logic Apps, which are performed in order to complete a difficult task.

 

3.    What are connectors in Azure Logic Apps?

Connectors are used in Azure Logic Apps to accomplish certain actions or processes. These connectors are intended to connect to and interact with user data. For Azure Logic Apps, there are several connectors available, including Enterprise connectors. Users have the option of using pre-defined connectors or creating their own unique connectors. Connectors can also be defined using ARM templates. Connectors in Azure Logic Apps can function as either actions or triggers.

 

4.   What are Actions in Azure Logic Apps?

Actions are the steps that are performed once the trigger is activated. When an Azure Logic App is started, a series of actions are performed to complete the workflow. Actions are processes that will carry out the specified business task based on the data supplied by the user. Users can choose the required action from the connector repository's collection of actions.

 

5.    How would you add connectors to Azure Logic Apps?

·       Navigate to the Azure portal and select Create a resource.

·       In the search box, type Logic Apps Custom Connector and choose it from the drop-down menu.

·       Select Create in Logic Apps Custom Connector.

·       Register the connector by entering the details and selecting Review + Create.

·       After reviewing the information, click Create.

·       The menu appears automatically once users create the custom connector resource. If it doesn't, you can go directly to the subscription and resource group you chose and open it. Users can define the connector's behavior using the custom connector.

 

6.   How many custom connector can be created in an Azure subscription?

We can create up to 1,000 custom connectors per Azure subscription.

 

7.    Is it possible to have multiple triggers in an Azure Logic App?

Yes, Azure Logic App can have multiple triggers configured. A Logic App workflow can accept multiple triggers.

 

8.   How many different types of triggers are there in Azure Logic Apps?

There are two main types of triggers:

Built-in triggers

Built-in triggers are predefined triggers that activate Azure Logic Apps according to a schedule and the HTTP protocol. Many built-in trigger types are available, including HTTP, HTTPWebhook, Recurrence, and Request.

Managed API triggers

Managed API triggers are built on API connections and API Webhook connections that use custom connectors to check an endpoint.

 

9.   Which type of trigger has to be used to start the azure logic app?

An Azure alert notification can be routed to other systems via webhooks for specific processing or actions. A webhook on an alert can be used for a variety of purposes, including routing it to SMS messaging services, bug logging, alerting a team using messaging or chat services, and more.

 

10.         How to update the state of a workflow step in an Azure Logic App

To do this, actions of the webhook type should be used. A webhook action will send out a subscribe request once it has begun running and will provide a specific callback URI that can be used to resume the action. To keep the state up to date and give the logic app instructions about when to resume, we would require external service (using invoke the callback URI).

11. Assume that you are working as an Azure Cloud Platform engineer at Azurelib.com. You have been asked to create a workflow using the Logic App in the Azure cloud. What would be the first thing activity you may add while developing a logic app workflow?

Every logic app has to start from the trigger. Hence your first activity would be the logic app trigger. You will add the trigger based on the requirement and then you will keep on adding the operations/actions as per the need.

 

12. Assume that you are working as an Azure data engineer at Azurelib.com. You have to take a decision whether to use the Logic App or Azure function, how would you decide?

There are certain parameters that needed to be taken into consideration while making any decision. For example, you should start with checking all the different data sources and applications with which this proposed workflow has to interact with. If you feel there are different sources like Service Bus, Office 365 services such as Outlook, Excel, and SharePoint, Enterprise systems such as SAP and IBM MQ, or maybe file shares such as FTP and SFTP.  In case your workflow needs connectors for any kind of these systems then probably logic app would be the prudent choice because of the rich number of connectors available

You may also have to check if you are looking on developing the no-code workflow. Hence these are some of the design principles which you consider while deciding.

 

13. Assume that you have worked as a data engineer with Azurelib.com. Your client has asked to develop a logic app that may go to connect to multiple data sources. How would you do the development in such a way that, when you move from dev to UAT or Prod environment there would be very minimal changes?

I will develop my logic app using the logic app parameters. Instead of giving the data source details hardcoded like server address and credentials, I will use the logic app parameters. Once we move from one environment to the next just change the details in the parameters and the rest all works smoothly.

 

14. Azurelib.com has hired you to work as a data engineer. The company is using the ADF to do the cloud migration. As a part of it, Azurelib.com is moving old log files to the Azure storage. Once the file gets copied to a blob storage an email has to be triggered to all the team members. What type of trigger would be the best choice for your logic app workflow in this scenario?

An email has to be triggered once the file gets copied in the blob storage. Hence I would put the blob trigger for logic app workflow.

 

15. You are a cloud developer who works with Azurelib.com. Assume that there are a couple of existing workflows that are failing due to some reasons. You have been asked to check, where you can find the details for them?

I will go to the Azure logic app account in the Azure portal. Under the Logic App overview section, you will see the  Run History tab. Click on it and then you can review all the logic app run history.

 

16. What are the built-in operation in the Azure Logic Apps?

A built-in trigger or action is an operation that runs natively in Azure Logic Apps. For example, built-in operations provide ways for you to control your workflow’s schedule or structure, run your own code, manage and manipulate data, send or receive requests to an endpoint, and complete other tasks in your workflow.

 

17. How would the logic app work conceptually?

In a logic app, each workflow always starts with a single trigger A trigger fires when a condition is met, for example, when a specific event happens or when data meets specific criteria. Many triggers include scheduling capabilities that control how often your workflow runs. Following the trigger, one or more actions run operations that, for example, process, handle, or convert data that travels through the workflow, or that advance the workflow to the next step.

 

18.What are the different RBAC built in roles available for Logic App?

Logic App Contributor: Lets you manage logic apps, but you can’t change access to them.

Logic App Operator: Lets you read, enable, and disable logic apps, but you can’t edit or update them.

Contributor: Grants full access to manage all resources, but does not allow you to assign roles in Azure RBAC, manage assignments in Azure Blueprints, or share image galleries.

 

19. What do you mean by Connectors in the Azure Logic App?

When you build workflows using Azure Logic Apps, you can use connectors to help you quickly and easily access data, events, and resources in other apps, services, systems, protocols, and platforms – often without writing any code. A connector provides prebuilt operations that you can use as steps in your workflows. Azure Logic Apps provides hundreds of connectors that you can use. If no connector is available for the resource that you want to access, you can use the generic HTTP operation to communicate with the service, or you can create a custom connector.

 

20.        How you can create a logic app callable through a URL and able to receive inbound requests?

In order to create a logic app that can be called by using the HTTPS URL, we can use these three types of triggers in the app.

·       Request

·       HTTP Webhook

·       Managed connector triggers that have the ApiConnectionWebhook type and can receive inbound HTTPS requests

 

21. How to get bulk data in the Azure logic app using pagination?

When you retrieve data, items, or records by using a connector action in Azure Logic Apps, you might get result sets so large that the action doesn’t return all the results at the same time. Some actions let you turn on a pagination setting so that your logic app can retrieve more results up to the pagination limit, but return those results as a single message when the action finishes. When you use pagination, you must specify a threshold value, which is the target number of results you want the action to return.

 

22.         By default Azure logic app runs action in a sequential manner. Can we run in parallel mode?

Yes, we can run Azure logic app action in the parallel mode, by creating the parallel branch. Later on you can join this parallel branch before finish.

 

23.         Can we use any type of object in the Foreach to operate upon in the logic app?

No only Array type of object is permissible in the foreach to iterate upon.

 

24.         What do you mean by scopes in the Azure Logic Apps?

In logic apps, in some cases, you wanted to run actions only after another group of actions succeeds or fails then you can group those actions inside a scope. This structure is useful when you want to organize actions as a logical group, evaluate that group’s status, and perform actions that are based on the scope’s status. After all the actions in a scope finish running, the scope also gets its own status

25.         What do you mean by pooling trigger and push trigger?

 

Polling triggers

Push triggers

Regularly checks a service endpoint for new data. When new data exists, the trigger creates and runs a new workflow instance with the data as input.

Listens for data at a service endpoint and waits until a specific event happens. When the event happens, the trigger fires immediately, creating and running a new workflow instance that uses any available data as input.
